Lost Lake Adventure

One of the cool adventures our friends, Brian & Colette, took us on when we first starting going to Rocky Shore Lodge was a scenic trip up the Ord River to Lost Lake. We usually plan the trip to Lost Lake with anticipation that we could spend a good part of the day there so we are sure to take plenty of provisions with us to hold us over during the adventure. Upon entering the mouth of the Ord River, we proceeded through the winding waterway taking in all the beautiful scenery NW Ontario has to offer, to include the occasional bear and moose sightings.
After traveling up river for some time, we came to a small shallow opening in a mud bog barely wide enough to accomodate the boats. Brian pointed and indicated that was the route we would take to get to Lost Lake. We could hardly believe this small waterway extending off the river was going to lead us to another lake, let alone accomdate our boats. Low and behold, with the assistance of the trolling motor and our oars, we were able to maneuever our boats through the shallow stream to the mouth of Lost Lake.
Upon entering Lost Lake, we discovered just why this adventure was so special and why Brian and Colette wanted so badly to share it with us. The views were breathtaking - the surrounding timber, coupled with rock formations, tall bluffs, and the sounds of nature, gave the impression the lake had been untouched by man - it was just that beuatiful and filled us with an excitement to begin exploring - and fishing!
We fished at Lost Lake for several hours, picking off a few fish here and there but nothing really to write home about. When the fishing slowed for some time, Lori and I took the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the nature that surrounded us and may or may not have harnessed the spirit of John Labatt, which was rumored to always improve the fishing? There just may be something to that old legend though, because while fishing our way out of the lake and making our way back to the Ord River, Lori and I both caught back to back beauties that provided us with a great memory and story to share. I netted a respectable walleye from my trusty jig tipped with a minnow and Lori caught a very large Northern Pike on a GT-360 - the largest pike she had caught up to that point in our NW Ontario adventures. Needless to say, it was just another of many reasons why we love our annual fishing trip to Rocky Shore Lodge and remain grateful to our friends for sharing this beautiful place with us.
